Words can inspire imagery but so can images inspire words. These are a collection of some of my pictures and the thoughts they inspired.

Once upon a time, this green heron duo was resting peacefully in this tree...

Suddenly, an intruder - another green heron - showed up and these two were not having it...

Words were exchanged...though it looked like only one was doing the cackling...

Suddenly, the newcomer was attacked!

It went downhill quickly...

Suddenly a fourth heron showed up...

And it totally looked like it was coming to the aid of the duo...

The newcomer noticed and bailed...

... and rather quickly...

It's job done, the fourth heron took off leaving the duo, this time even more vigilant.

THE END

It has been dubbed the "Niagara of the South". Found in the southeastern part of Kentucky, in its eponymous state park (which is part of the Daniel Boone National Forest), it is 68 feet tall and 125 feet wide. It is as impressive as it is beautiful.

Without what they do, the human race will literally perish.

Of the 1,400 crop plants grown around the world that produce all of our food and plant-based industrial products, almost 80% require pollination by animals. Visits from bees and other pollinators also result in larger, more flavorful fruits and higher crop yields.

In the United States alone, pollination of agricultural crops is valued at 10 billion dollars annually. Globally, pollination services are likely worth more than 3 trillion dollars. Presenting…

There is never enough space,

For what erupts.

Fiery lava of passion,

That purges all in its way,

As it seeks to reach that summit,

Is what happens….

Known as the “Horaltic Pose”, a black vulture assumes it each morning as it faces the sun.

You see, having to survive on carrion, and the availability of the carrion being unpredictable, the vulture lets the body temperature drop at night to conserve energy. Come morning, it spreads out its wings to get warmed up by the rising sun. The vulture heralds the new day by energizing before it flies off to clean Nature up.

So what energizes you in the morning? What gets you ready to “carpe diem”?

A quiet time? Meditation? Coffee? A 5-mile run? 100 push-ups? The news?

Whatever it is, it is your sun. Like the vulture, spread out you arms and let it give you that spark for the day. Energize!….

It does not matter how turbulent the surface of a body of water is; it does not matter how strong the waves are or how numerous the ripples. If a dark filter is held over the lens and the scene exposed not for the hundredths or thousandths of seconds but for seconds or even minutes, that turbulent surface becomes smooth and tranquil. The waves vanish, the ripples disappear.

You see, in the absence of light, time brings tranquility to turbulence. In times of pain and sorrow, the only balm is the tincture of time.

At some point it gets to be too much...the load becomes too heavy to bear...the pressure too high to withstand...the obstacles too many to surmount...and so we let go and fall into the nothingness and unfathomable depths...not knowing where and when we’ll land...we let go into an uncertainty only armed with what we may have learned from the mistakes we made...we let go and fall like...

The Halloween Series, 2020 - No. IX

His eyes sparkled as he knelt before Sasa, the Evil and All Powerful One...Sasa was offering him riches, power, and fame...he had been shown what he could gain and now he wanted every bit of the riches, power, and fame...there was a snag though...Sasa wanted something from him...something he could not live without...so as the clock ticked, he thought quickly about what he could sacrifice...then like a bolt of thunder, it came to him!...he reached into his cold chest, ripped it out and handed it to Sasa, who with a look of knowing in his dark, bottomless eyes, took...
